A Manifesto for Good Work

Based on dozens of conversations with designers and creators working across disciplines, forms and mediums, we created a simple five point manifesto to lay down a simple and easily implementable manifesto for work that is good. You don’t need a moral philosophy degree to ponder upon the ethics of what we do, all you need is to think of:

🌱

Environmental Sustainability

Make sure your work does not have a negative impact on the environment in its production, and during and after its life cycle.

💗

Value
Systems

Find your own beliefs and stick to them. Leave room for error and correct them when time comes. Do no harm, take no sh*t.

🙌

Cultural
Sensitivity

Is your work respectful to the multitudes of cultures that exist in this world? Make sure it does not go out of the way to disrespect them, or misappropriate them when the context does not call for it. Does it borrow from cultures? Is that done fairly?

🤝

Fair Work
Practices

Ensure that you and your collaborators are healthy. Set healthy boundaries. Don’t exploit others and don’t let yourself be taken advantage of.

💸

Financial
Fairness

Make sure you and your collaborators get what your work is worth. Make sure production and distribution happens in such a way that every stakeholder is compensated fairly for their contribution to the work.

These points look simple enough, but it may be a little hard to implement when it comes to practice. To further empower you to take the right choices, we have put together a glossary for designing for the people.
